VEGAS TOURISM GETS A 21 DOM PERIGNON CHAMPAGNE CORK SALUTE
The three day 34th annual UNLVino “Sip for a Scholarship” fundraiser started literally with a bang! Corks from 21 bottles of fine Dom Perignon champagne exploded in a salute to Vegas tourism chief Rossi Ralenkotter! He’s the head honcho hoping to raise our annual visitor count to 45-million within the next five years!
Opening night was at The Joint inside the Hard Rock Hotel and 21 of the city’s sommeliers kicked off Bubble-Licious popping the magnums and filling a giant champagne glass for Rossi’s toast. He was also presented with a framed and engraved bottle of the good stuff! Next night wines from Australia, New Zealand and South Africa were featured in the Auss-Some walkabout open-air event in the District at Green Valley Ranch—and the third day of the 60-hour spirits spectacular was at Paris resort where over 145 suppliers poured more than 1,100 different wines and champagnes!
All the money from UNLVino raised goes to support the students and activities of our William Harrah College of Hotel Administration at UNLV.
There was even one intriguing wine I found from Thailand that I’d never heard of producing wines before this. Named Monsoon Valley wines, it comes in both white and red and is dated with the Buddhist year! I have to tell you also about a new Vegas Vino—a premiere souvenir wine that I discovered at the show! It’s not from vines in Pahrump but from Woodbridge in the Mendocino Valley and is available in sparkling Chardonnay and Cabernet and comes complete with cards, dice and showgirl on the label.
Please support Lynda Tache’s great idea because she generously donates a portion of each sale to our Lily Clare Foundation charity. You can place orders online and send Vegas Vino to all your out of state friends at vegasvino.com or its perfect to send home with visitors as a farewell souvenir.
