TOUGHEST FIGHTING OF ALL
Is it the hardest, toughest, meanest, baddest ring sport in the world? Could it be more brutal than the Ultimate Fighting Octagon contenders or more horrific than the steel-cage mixed martial art warriors or more blood-thirsty than wrestlers with wood planks and metal ladders? Well, the proponents of Muay Thai – the kick boxing styled national sport of Thailand—claim it is.
It is eight-point fighting using fists, feet, elbows and knees that generally result in all fights ending in slam-bang knockouts! The face and head kicks, knees to the nose and powerful elbow punches are known as “strikes,” and judges score on that barrage of weapons! A new 15-episode TV reality show is coming to America, and with 12 episodes already shot in Singapore, the final 3 shows of Contender Muay Thai Asia will be filmed here in Vegas. Once again, Survivor and Apprentice producer, Mark Burnett has his name on the creation, although it’s being produced by Imagine Omni Media in Southeast Asia under its agreement with Mark.
Some 16 Muay Thai fighting champions from 12 different Asian countries have battled a series of 36 bouts and elimination matches while living in a “reality house” together for three-months filmed by Vegas director Jerry Schafer. When the fighters and cameras move here for the three remaining episodes, it will mark the first time ever that The Muay Thai Championship will be staged in America—right here in Vegas. Interestingly enough, the fighters battle out the blows to live music of Thai instruments keeping time with the music during the combat, so the musicians will also be coming to town!
