THE GREAT SANTA GUINNESS RECORD
The world-record for the most red-suited Santa Clauses gathered in one spot looks set to be shattered and finally claimed by Vegas. Tomorrow morning, I’ll be downtown on Fremont Street at 8 a.m. with our merry Mayor of Mirth, Oscar Goodman as runners and walkers all clad as Santa sign up to support Opportunity Village, our beloved local charity assisting the intellectually challenged residents of our Valley. Then at 10 a.m. the masters of illusion, Siegfried & Roy will lead off the 1k walk section while the more hale and hearty tackle the 5k segment.
It’s the third year we’ll challenge the Beatles old hometown of Liverpool which holds the Guinness World Book record of 3,991 Father Christmases. The first year Vegas only fielded 3,000 red-coated revelers but went into last year with over 5,000.
However, the official record-keepers made their own statistical errors and decided neither city could claim victory. There’s still time for last-minute entrants to ensure our superiority! Linda Smith, Opportunity’s head honcho told me, “the Santa run has now become an annual fund-raiser for us, so we absolutely have to break the record, claim the title and live up to our slogan that ‘what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas’ to keep the record here for evermore.”
So come on down to the Fremont Street Experience and jingle with all the Kris Kringles. I know its early, but just for once get out of bed early this weekend!
