STRIP SCRIBBLES
*More photos of the Britney Spears vacation with George Maloof in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico are surfacing. Now TMZ has video footage of Britney and George on a horseback ride along the sandy beaches there. There are two sets of video footage, one from the dunes and another from a helicopter that tried to swoop in on the horse back riders. Her girlfriend and Mexican horsemen accompanied Britney with George following slightly behind. Click here for our first report on Monday.
*With tourism numbers slipping and August reservations suffering the traditional decline because of our high desert temperatures comedienne Roseanne Barr has decided to take the month off and vacation at her big island Hawaii home.
At first she was going to return to resume her Sahara show in early September but now there are rumblings she may cut down on her schedule and just return for shorter Strip engagements in the future rather than continue on as a resident nightly headliner.
*Comedian George Wallace has added two-time Grammy winner Jennifer Holliday to his Flamingo show as a co-headliner for two weeks starting Aug. 19. Doubtless she’ll perform the monster hit “And I’m Telling You I’m Not Going” from her show-stealing performance in the Dreamgirls musical.
George is now in his fifth year as the resident headliner at the Flamingo and his showroom is still packed every night with laughing fans. He says every night is a different show and he loves to have surprise guests work with him.
*The premiere of the spy-spoof Las Vegas Crazy Girls Undercover has been set for Aug. 12 at Johnny Brenden’s movie theaters in the Palms. Look for lots of shapely girls from their stage home at the Riviera to be running around in lacy lingerie and burst-out bikinis as they solve the world’s crime problems under the shapely leadership of blonde bombshell Nikki Zeiring!
*Now that was a party: actress Taryn Manning showed off her new brunette look when she hosted the Privé nightclub party in the Planet Hollywood Resort.
She even popped the cork of a bottle of Veuve Clicquot champagne, but it was all that bumping and grinding with her female friends that caused the fireworks! Actor and hip-hop star Ludacris hung with Coolio, Three 6 Mafia and Dennis Haskins a.k.a Mr. Belding of Saved By The Bell fame. They were all at Privé’s exclusive table 69 following a performance by the “Gangster’s Paradise” singer.
*Congratulations to our friends at the Jean Philippe Patisserie on winning the official new Guinness Book of Records award for the world’s largest chocolate fountain. Notification about the Bellagio Hotel’s “sweet dessert” store’s achievement came officially yesterday (TUES).
*I really would like you to “adopt a mile” for the upcoming Sunday, Dec. 7 Las Vegas Marathon.
It’s not too early to sign up if you are a local business, community group, organization or Strip show group. It’s a wonderful way for you to lend support for this year’s race by maintaining and decorating a mile of the racecourse any way you want. All you need is to provide 50 to 75 volunteers to staff your mile, create signs and banners to cheer on runners as they pass by and, of course, commit to showing up on race-day. In return for adopting a mile of the race, The Las Vegas Marathon will provide a volunteer coordinator to assist with set up on race day and a fully equipped water station for the mile Marathon organizers will also arrange staging equipment and set-up for entertainment acts wishing to adopt and perform at one of 12 “Entertainment Miles.” To adopt-a-mile please email Sam Lieberman at osrsig@aol.com. The 2008 Marathon starts at 6 a.m. at Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino on Dec. 7. I’ve been out there every year so far to help kick it all off and will do so again this year. Fireworks start the race as runners run down the legendary Las Vegas Strip. This year it will be slightly different because the number of runners, walkers and wheelchair participants will be limited. Once 20,000 runners are signed up for the full and half marathon combined, registration will be closed.
*Star Surveillance: Grammy-winning American rock singer-songwriter and musician John Cougar Mellencamp and his band dined at Cathouse in the Luxor where Craig Ferguson, the host of CBS’s The Late Late Show was also seen in the adjoining ultralounge. … Keeping cool under the blazing sun at the exclusive Venus pool club oasis at Caesars Palace was former Nip/Tuck actress AnnaLynne McCord in a VIP cabana. Nearby NBA all star Shawn Marion sipped on mango mojitos and snacked on frozen grapes and orange slices. Boxer Sergio Mora enjoyed a knockout day there also selecting the specially prepared mango mojitos, with a fruit bowl and kettle chips for snacking. They all mingled happily with friends and fans. … At the chic Asian-themed eatery Social House in TI, professional poker player David Williams indulged in assorted sushi rolls on the restaurant’s outdoor patio taking in the sensational Strip views.
