No less a political figure than former Vice President Dan Quayle and wife, Marilyn took in the British anti-political humor of the Spamalot musical and afterwards went backstage to meet its star John O’Hurley. Then John’s wife, Lisa took the foursome off for dinner at Steve Wynn’s Steakhouse restaurant.
*Palms’ owner George Maloof is lining up the stars for his May 31 grand opening of the new Palms Place condo-tel. So far he’s got promises from celebrity guest D.J. Pete Wentz and his new sister-in-law Jessica Simpson along with Eve, Gabrielle Union (Ugly Betty), Garcelle Bauvais-Nilon (I Know Who Killed Me), Ian Ziering and Lisa Rinna (Dancing With The Stars), Luke Wilson, Robert Iler (The Soprano’s), Romany Malco (The Love Guru), and Sanaa Lathan (AVP: Alien vs. Predator)
*Mr. Las Vegas himself, singer-entertainer Wayne Newton shows no sign of retiring.
He’s just booked three weeks of headline gigs at MGM Grand. He starts July 31 through Aug. 6 and then returns Oct. 16-22 and Nov. 13-19. It puts to rest rumors that the heart problems that scared doctors and his family and caused cancellation of last December’s planned Harrah’s gigs were serious enough to prevent his showbiz return. Wayne was permitted by his doctors to emcee the Dancing with the Stars’ tour last Christmas and New Years but not allowed then to sing and dance.
*Sex and the City star Willie Garson took in the new Jersey Boys musical at The Palazzo.
He said he was excited to see it since he was originally from New Jersey too and hadn’t caught the show anywhere before. Willie, who stayed in a luxury suite at the new resort casino and is known for his poker skills stayed with the dice at the craps table this visit.
*WICKED WHISPERS & RACY RUMORS: Can it possibly be true that actress Lindsay Lohan, who twice cancelled out on Pure nightclub parties last year because of her rehab stints is now marketing herself out for the follow-up celebrations? She’s turning her next birthday into a major commercial enterprise hustling for big bucks advertising sponsors here in Vegas and back home in Los Angeles.
You can hopefully expect those ‘major changes’ I reported last week at one Strip nightclub over the next 90 days with the “new look” being launched soon after Labor Day. … A Miami and Strip hotel group have allegedly stalled plans for a Vegas nightclub group to run operations in both locations. … Singing star Ashanti was bizarrely delayed back east and unable at the last minute to fulfill a Vegas charity commitment! … Hooters headliner, comedian Bobby Slayton, affectionately known as the “Pit Bull of Comedy” has signed with local Vavoom Internet TV to host an upcoming game show series, I am Smarter than a Porn Star.
*Lifetime Cable TV has signed American Beauty, Mena Suvari, to star as Sandy Murphy in the September movie Sex & Lies in Sin City about the murder of downtown casino executive Ted Binion. Actor Matthew Modine will portray the slain victim. Murphy and Rick Tabish, a Binion maintenance man, were convicted of murder in their first trial but acquitted in the second trial. The film is based on the book Murder in Sin City written by Jeff German of our own Las Vegas Sun newspaper.
