The 73-year-old Vegas resident and headliner is heavily sedated and breathing through a respirator at the Cedar Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles after being transferred there October 13 after a ten-day Vegas hospital stay. Our prayers are with him and his wife, Vera who says that he can hear her but can’t respond to her. The star is battling a “rapidly progressive and fatal condition known as pulmonary fibrosis,” but if a lung transplant is found there’s an 88% chance of success and he could live another 15 years and return to singing. Many stars including longtime Vegas pal Jerry Lewis, magician Lance Burton, headliners Harry Connick Jr., Tony Orlando and Suzanne Somers have sent well-wishes. Robert and Vera have been generous supporters of Vegas charities and have made regular appearances at our hometown events. His career began with acclaim for his starring role in Camelot on Broadway in 1960 and he’s won both Grammy and Tony awards.
