OUR DAY-BY-DAY CINEVEGAS CALENDAR OF MOVIE SCREENINGS PREMIERES, PARTIES
The excitement starts tomorrow (THURS) as the 10th annual CineVegas Film Festival gets underway. For the next 10 days Vegas is all about the stars, the movies and the parties and Luxe Life has compiled all our personal picks and major highlights in one easy to read and easy to print calendar of events so you don’t miss out on one moment of the action. All events are at the Brenden Theaters in the Palms unless otherwise noted.
Thursday, June 12 Opening Night: The Rocker with stars Rainn Wilson, Emma Stone, Lonny Ross, Fred Amisen and Jane Lynch with director Peter Cattaneo walking the red carpet at 6:30 p.m.
Friday, June 13: Big Heart City with actor Seymour Cassell has a 5:30 p.m. red carpet. Bill Pullman, star of Your Name Here will be on hand for his 8:30 p.m. screening. Also at 8:30 p.m. is the world premiere of Happy Birthday, Harris Malden.The CineVegas 10th anniversary party gets underway at the Palms Place pool at 9:00 p.m.
Saturday, June 14: The world premiere of She Unfolds by Day is set for 1:00 p.m. followed by the 3:30 p.m. world premiere of South of Heaven. Then Bijou Phillips and Gabriel Mann star in Dark Streets and will do their red carpet walk starting 7:45 p.m. Then afterwards Bijou will be joined by Grammy Award-winning blues musician Chris Thomas King in a charity concert at the Palms pool to raise recovery funds for artists and cultural organizations in Louisiana still coping with the aftermath of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
This is also the night of the eagerly awaited Mexican film Deficit directed by Gael Garcia Bernal at 8:00 p.m. If it conflicts with other screenings you can also see it at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 17.
Sunday, June 15: Former wrestling superstar Dwayne Johnson stars with Steve Carrell and Anne Hathaway in spy spoof Get Smart and this is a rare 2:15 p.m. screening at the Planet Hollywood Resort’s mezzanine theater. The event will be a fundraiser for Dwayne’s “Project Knapsack” charity foundation. Prior to the movie Johnny Brenden will present Dwayne with a Brenden Celebrity Star at his Palms Resort theaters. Please go see my friend Scott Richman’s Black List movie directed by Timothy Greenfield-Sanders and starring Chris Rock, Sean Combs, Colin Powell and Serena Williams showing at 3:00 p.m. The much talked about Memorial Day movie has its world premiere at 7:00 p.m.The VIVA CineVegas party gets underway at Dos Caminos at The Palazzo starting at 9:00 p.m.
Monday, June 16: Vegas today owes a lot to crusading journalist Hank Greenspun who was publisher and editor of the Las Vegas Sun.
The documentary on his life and legacy Where I Stand will premiere at 6:00 p.m. with members of the Greenspun family who sponsor CineVegas on hand with Dennis Hopper. Japanese animation by master artist Takashi Murakami will be joined by Festival Chairman Dennis Hopper for the unique 9:00 p.m. screening of Planting the Seeds on the rear wall of the Lake of Dreams watershow at the Wynn. The SW Steakhouse and Daniel Boulud’s restaurants have special combination special dinner and movie packages. Afterwards the CineVegas party kicks off at the Blush boutique nightclub at 10:30 p.m.
Tuesday, June 17: CineVegas Film Festival chairman Dennis Hopper is in Chelsea on the Rocks screening at 1:00 p.m. with Ethan Hawke and Grace Jones about the legendary Chelsea Hotel in New York. Dennis also appears in The Cool School narrated by Jeff Bridges about the birth of the West Coast modern art scene at 2:30 p.m. The crazy comedy of two Easter Bunnies comes to light in Hank & Mike when the company that employs them fires them in a downsizing. The laughter starts at 5:00 p.m. Tao Beach at The Venetian plays host for the “In Film We Trust” party starting at 9:00 p.m.
Wednesday, June 18: Check out the 1:30 p.m. screening of GoGo Tales with Willem Dafoe, Bob Hoskins and Mathew Modine about a strip-joint owners foolproof way to win the lottery and the night he hits the jackpot. The unique partnership between the Beatles and Cirque du Soleil’s creative team is examined in a no-holds barred candid behind the scenes documentary All Together Now at 7:00 p.m.
Guy Laliberté and sound engineers Sir George and Giles Martin plus some of the Love cast are hoping to attend. Afterwards at 9:00 p.m. until midnight the moviemakers celebrate with a party appropriately at The Beatles Revolution Lounge in The Mirage.
Thursday, June 19: Our headliner magicians, Lance Burton, Teller and Criss Angel appear in the first and only documentary, Women in Boxes, that reveals the secret lives of the Magician’s Assistant at 1:30 p.m. The story of young love and its collision with drugs and poverty in Philadelphia is depicted at 6:30 p.m. in Explicit Ills, which is in the CineVegas “diamond discoveries” section of previously premiered new films and available for American distribution. Primo about three cousins who journey to Vegas and deal with a love triangle, a lethal gambling debt and family revenge is at 9:30 p.m. The CineVegas Drive In exists for only one night near Fremont Street at 9:00 p.m. and us followed by the Vintage Vegas party with a 10:00 p.m. start downtown.
Friday, June 20: The Q&A conversation with Don Cheadle is set for 4:00 p.m. and with Viggo Mortensen precedes the 6:00 p.m. screening of his Alatriste movie.
Check out two other interesting movies Choke with Anjelica Huston is at 6:30 p.m. and Cocaine Cowboys with Charles Cosby at 7:30 p.m.
Marquee Award recipient Anjelica Huston, actress Rosario Dawson with Viggo Mortensen, Don Cheadle, Sam Rockwell and Vegas Icon Award recipient James Caan will be honored at the three-hour long Honorees Reception at 8:00 p.m. on the pool deck of the Planet Hollywood Resort. Ben Kingsley who attended CineVegas last year stars in The Wackness with Mary Kate Olsen, which unspools at 9:30 p.m.
Saturday, June 21: Johnny Depp narrates the Life and Work of Dr. Hunter Thompson focusing on the good days of 1965 to 1975 showing at 1:00 p.m. The Q&A conversation with Rosario Dawson begins at 1:00 p.m.
The Q&A conversation with Sam Rockwell stats at 3:00 p.m. My favorite magic movie Women in Boxes re-runs at 3:30 p.m.
The Q&A conversation takes place with Anjelica Huston at 5:00 p.m. Closing night with actor Colin Hanks confirmed for the 7:00 p.m. premiere of The Great Buck Howard. His brother Tom Hanks and my super master-magician friend Ricky Jay are also featured in the mind-reading magical movie. The official closing night party will be at the new Palazzo pool starting at 9:00 p.m.
