OPRAH WINFREY FILMS LADY-LEGENDS CHER & TINA TURNER
Talk-show titan Oprah Winfrey kicks off another giant all-star weekend here with her once-in-a-lifetime special interviews of legendary singers Cher and Tina Turner.
Cameras will be rolling tomorrow afternoon (SAT) in The Colosseum theater at Caesars Palace and the extraordinary episode will air on May 8, just two days after Cher’s gala red-carpet premiere there. Oprah arrives today (FRI) for this remarkable Vegas spectacular.
Since her debut in 1964, international icon and superstar Cher has sold over 200 million records worldwide as a solo artist and 75 million more as half of the duo Sonny and Cher. Cher’s many career accomplishments in music, television and film include an Academy Award, a Grammy Award, an Emmy Award and three Golden Globe Awards. Tina Turner has sold over 100 million records, and with her exceptional live performances, she is without doubt a true rock star. Known for such anthems as “River Deep, Mountain High” and “Nutbush City Limits” with her former partner Ike Turner and for solo hits including “What’s Love Got to Do With It?” and “The Best,” her many achievements span the fields of music, screen, stage and books. The Oprah Winfrey Show has remained the No. 1 talk show for 21 consecutive seasons, winning every ratings book since its debut in 1986. It is syndicated to 212 American TV stations by King World and to 135 countries by CBS Paramount International Television.
Much of Oprah’s show here is cloaked in secrecy but we do know that there will be look-alike tribute artists to Cher and Tina in the audience to surprise the Lady Legends. One of those is our friend Larry Edwards who has been impersonating Tina for over 25 years.
Ironically they met at the United Airlines VIP suite in Chicago after Tina had taped a previous Oprah show!. Larry told Luxe Life: “I promised her then that I would only do first-class top-notch tributes to her. It had taken me 18 years to meet her. So now I’ve been chosen to be in character for her Saturday show with Oprah I am jumping with joy to be part of the excitement.” Larry, who was given the key to Vegas by our merry Mayor of Mirth, Oscar Goodman, is an entertainer host at the Krave alternative nightclub in Planet Hollywood Resort’s Miracle Mile.
Incidentally many of the over 700 people from all over the world attending the Cher Convention at Caesars Palace on Aug. 11 & 12 will be Cher look-alikes. It’s a fundraiser for Childrens Craniofacial Association for which Cher serves as national spokesperson. She has been fighting for the cause ever since her movie Mask. She has been one of the most generous supporters of children born with facial deformities or burn victim kids.
