DAVID COPPERFIELD UPDATE
As a Seattle federal grand jury is impaneled to probe accusations against our Strip headlining magician, David Copperfield, the Seattle Times reported over the weekend that a would-be 21-year-old Washington model has told law enforcement her first meeting with our Vegas star began Jan 25. The respected newspaper reports she claims to have been invited on stage at his Seattle show and then was later invited to his remote private island hideaway in the Bahamas. The woman alleges she had email exchanges with David and then made the trip to Exuma in July. Upon her return she is said to have told the FBI and Seattle police of the rape allegations which David Chesnoff, Vegas attorney for the magician, totally denies yet again.
“He has never forced himself on anyone.” Chesnoff also blasted the investigators for improperly leaking information to the newspaper and reiterated, “All the allegations are false. David Copperfield has never struck, forced himself or threatened any woman,” the attorney added. “If some woman told anyone that he did, then she is not being truthful.”
Chesnoff pointed out that these are not the first allegations leaked in this case which turned out to be false. He tells TMZ, “The media reported the FBI seized $2 million in cash from Mr. Copperfield’s Las Vegas warehouse, only to be contradicted by an FBI statement that the reports were untrue and that $2 million was neither found nor seized.” Chesnoff continued, “We have been asked to respect the confidentiality of the investigation, but clearly law enforcement officials are not doing the same. At least three federal officials have been cited as sources in the Seattle Times story containing information about allegations being made. This not only unfairly and falsely defames my client, but it undermines the integrity of the entire investigation.”
The lawyer pointed out that Copperfield has no blemishes in his past and is taking the allegations very hard: “It is very hurtful for him to hear and read these horrible, untrue allegations being made against him by a still unnamed woman. As I have previously said, David Copperfield has never forced himself on any woman. He is not that type of person. He is a true gentleman in every sense of the word.”
