DANCING STARS COUNTDOWN
In less than ten hours the new season of Dancing with the Stars gets underway – and it’s a real Vegas showdown. Perhaps the hit ABC-TV series should even be re-titled, “Dancing with the Vegas Stars.”
Mr. Las Vegas himself, Wayne Newton will be partnered with winning dance tutor Cheryl Burke and boxing’s Pretty Boy, Floyd Mayweather is teamed with Karina Smirnoff.
But there’s a host of other regular Vegas visitors competing too: Dallas Mavericks mogul Mark Cuban who is more at the Palms than in the Texas triangle, singer Marie Osmond who is a regular Orleans entertainer, and my English actress friend, Jane Seymour who regularly pops into the Fashion Mall to check on her art collection on sale in a gallery there.
Jane explained that training for the show is a tough grind: “There’s a lot of very necessary stretching, Pilates and cardio. Particularly for me because I have herniated discs and it helps my fused spine. I may have trained as a child in ballet, but that was when I was very young. I gave up all the good connected with that when I became an actress – so this has been really going back to the beginning for me.”
Funnily enough, despite her skills, Jane knows this is going to be a very touchy challenge. She says that Wayne has the best determination, diligence and discipline to go all the way, and that surprisingly, the shoot-from-the hip Cuban is one fierce competitor as a great dancer.
The show premieres this evening with the first results show tomorrow night .
