COME ON IN—THE WATER’S FINE: THE POOLS ARE OPEN!
Vegas is the only city in the world where the parties by night simply continue on round the clock and into the daytime. In fact on weekends its one massive nonstop 72-hour celebration. I guess in Miami, Rio de Janeiro or the South of France there’s a similar beach scene but nobody serves up the luxury and amenities like Vegas.
Summer is almost here—Spring certainly is—and the pool party season is underway. The brand new behemoth, Wet Republic at MGM opens today (FRI), the long-time five-year leader, Rehab at the Hard Rock re-opens on Sunday, Bare, the topless optional pool lounge at The Mirage opened last Sunday and George Maloof’s “Ditch Fridays” starts up next weekend. The other gorgeous pools are up, open and in full swing: Tao Beach at The Venetian with its 10 a.m.-10 p.m. parties, Moorea Beach Club at Mandalay Bay complete with blackjack tables, Venus at Caesars Palace and the new GO pool at the Flamingo.
This unique Vegas phenomenon is about beautiful trendsetters posing and parading while swimming and sunbathing in the smallest and sexiest of swimsuits—all with an extraordinary mix of DJ’s and rock concerts. Be it bare-chested hunks or topless breast baring blondes and brunettes, fabulous flirtatious fun in the sun is hot, hip and happening.
The new Wet Republic at MGM combines the concept of an ultra-lounge with an ultra-pool. The 53,000-sqaure-foot aqua-venue with its six waterfalls features a total of eight pools of, two which are saltwater—the only ones of their kind in Vegas. There’s also a giant open-air poolside lounge with six bungalows and 10 cabanas to grab shade or dance on the sundeck
or dance platforms to visiting guest groups or dj’s. The champagne, I’m told, will be served on fruit-flavored shaved ice while Vodka Red Bull concoctions and watermelon mojitas come frozen to remain colder longer!
Bare boasts the ultimate in poolside pampering, with two luxury dipping pools, distinctive contemporary ambiance and the Light Group’s ultra VIP service. The European-style sun bathing is safely secluded by towering palms. Stretch out in private cabanas and daybeds or stay poolside in the chaise lounges while attentive and attractive staff pamper guests with everything from chilled cucumbers to soothe the eyes; iced towels, rolled and chilled in lemon flavored water; and Evian misting bottles, super-chilled and ready to spritz. A massage therapist also offers poolside massages and a mini—California Pizza Kitchen menu supplies any hunger!
Believe it or not but nightclub goers don’t bother going to bed as dawn rises—they start lining up at 6am on Sundays to ensure they get into Rehab at the Hard Rock. This year—starting this weekend—there’s an added reason why! REHAB the Movie will film poolside from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. for a new TV reality series capturing a “no holds barred” look that highlights everything from dozens of celebrities who hang out there and beachwear so sexy one wonders how on earth it hangs on a body! The 4.7 acres of tropical paradise has a Tahitian style floating palapa holding a Beach Bar & Grill and a dance floor with swim-up blackjack tables. New additions this year include a lavish new VIP daybed deck a VIP beach lounge area and seven additional luxury cabanas. This Sunday even big-name hip-hop star DMX is attending to rock the Rehab opening in true Vegas style.
