CHER’S NEW SHOW MOVES INTO CAESARS PALACE
Ticket sales are “going through the roof” for superstar singer Cher’s debut run at Caesars Palace premiering in exactly one-months time on May 6. “The sales are amazingly strong, ” Kris Lingle from AEG/Concerts West told me. “So much so that we put all her September and October dates on sale yesterday (SUN). She’s almost sold out for the first run of shows.” Today (MON) all the Cher photos, posters and creative materials go up on display all over Caesars Palace now that Sir Elton John’s current run ended last night also.
It all coincides with this week’s “slow load in” of the Cher show, everything from scenery to Bob Mackie’s gorgeous gowns and outrageous outfits for the diva herself. Once everything is set Cher will move into Caesars Palace for the dress rehearsals that are expected to start in two-weeks time. Then the countdown to opening night is official for the three-year 200 show engagement in the Coliseum!
“I can’t go on the road anymore. It’s just too much. It’s just too impossibly hard. I started out at Caesars so its fun to be back there,” says Cher. “I never expected to be going this long. I have no idea how that happened but you don’t want to give up some part of your life that’s that important.” The Oscar, Emmy and Grammy award winner also promises her show will be completely different: “We will be using technology you’ve never seen before.”
Her forever costume designer Bob Mackie has given an advance taste of the clothes magic he’s creating for the show. Known as the “sultan of sequins” and “raja of rhinestones” the 68-year-old designer says he’s finalized 12 stage-outfits for her. “She wants the whole works and people love that about her,” he said. “There’s going to be some incredible new gowns that people are going to love—and they will be as spectacular as the show itself. We’re going to mix in some updated nostalgia looks that she’s worn before because she’s doing some of those same songs. But when she comes out on stage dragged up beyond belief everybody will be talking about it.”
