ALOHA CHEFS
The “secret ingredient” was Aloha Soy sauce, and ten of our favorite Vegas chefs fired up Wolfgang Puck’s Chinois kitchen to compete in a head-to-head challenge. Banging the pots and pans were Spago’s Eric Klein, TAO’s Mark Andelbrant, Carlton Shinsato from the Mirage, MGM Grand’s Jeanie Turcato, Brandon Konishi and Percy Oani from Roy Yamaguchi’s two Vegas restaurants, Hiro Nakano from Sen of Japan, Katherine Brockshire of the Rio, Luis Alvarez of Osaka and Tony Marinas from the Paris resort hotel casino. An interesting element was added to the cook-off with each chef tasting and voting on his competing chefs’ dishes!
After the three hour fiery kitchen combat, judges selected Brandon Konishi from Roy’s Restaurant in Summerlin to represent Vegas in the Aloha Soy Battle national finals in Hawaii later this year! Since Roy himself lives on Diamond Head, he should be right in the neighborhood for some last-minute power cooking tips!
