ACADEMY OF COUNTRY MUSIC WRAPS UP ITS WEEK IN VEGAS

They’ve shopped, they’ve parted, they’ve played, they’ve gambled, they’ve danced and now they’ve gone home to Nashville! Time to say au-revoir for another year to the kings and queens of country music who took over the Strip for their 43rd annual Academy of Country Music Awards.

Before show host Reba McEntire left town she told me: “I’ve been doing this for 10 years now. The first time I was a greenhorn scared to death. Thank goodness Mac Davis and John Schneider were there to take care of me. Each year I take on the challenge to improve, which is why I don’t get tired of doing it. Now it’s become fun with the whole thing resting squarely on my shoulders. The only work about it is finding lots of different dresses to wear.

“We love coming to Vegas. Vegas draws more excitement to the show. We have more to talk about. It is flashier, glitzier. We in country music love the flash and the glitz. It also brings everyone out of their hometowns. I don’t know anyone in the business that lives in Vegas so when we come here it is like a family reunion. We get to eat dinner together in all the great restaurants; we all go together to see the spectacular shows. It’s one big party I love Vegas, who doesn’t?”
