*An advance heads-up that Tao’s executive chef at The Venetian, Sam Hazen, will feature on an advance Super Bowl segment on NBC’s Today Show tomorrow morning at 8:30 a.m. He’ll showcase his signature Tao dishes of roasted Buddha chicken lollipops, dragon tail spare ribs, oyster shooters and tuna tartar fish tacos. In addition, Sam will give hints on how to keep updating the menu throughout the big game.
*Two giant sports figures arrived simultaneously, but separately, at the N9NE Steakhouse in the Palms. For NASCAR racer Jeff Gordon it was “boys night out” with five guys, and for star Kansas City Chiefs running back Larry Johnson it was “date night” with his lovely companion!
*CineVegas film-festival executives hosted a luncheon in the new Fin restaurant at the Park City Sky Lodge during the rival Sundance Film Festival for our chairman, Dennis Hopper. Artistic director Trevor Groth and VIP guests included our heroic head-honchos, CineVegas Presidents Robin and Danny Greenspun.

Dennis premiered two of his films, “Sleepwalking” and “Hell Ride” while there, but promises both will be seen here when he returns to Vegas for the 10th annual CineVegas Film Festival June 12–21, 2008.
*Congratulations to young actress Abigail Breslin, just named ShoWest’s “Female Star of Tomorrow.”

It’s the first award announced by the annual convention of the movie industry and theater owners to be held here at Bally’s & Paris hotel resorts, March 10-13. Abigail actually made her big screen debut at just five years of age in Mel Gibson’s Signs, and followed with Little Miss Sunshine. Abigail has already worked with such stars as Kate Hudson, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and James Garner—and she’s only now 11. She will be seen next with Jodie Foster in Nim’s Island, opening April 4.
Congratulations to Brendan Fraser on the second award—the “Distinguished Decade of Achievement in Film.” He made his debut in 1992’s Encino Man. The movie industry is already abuzz about his huge summer release, Journey 3D follow-up to such action blockbusters as The Mummy trilogy, Crash and George of the Jungle. Based on the classic Jules Verne novel, “Journey to the Center of the Earth,” this flick is the first live-action digital 3-D movie ever. Next year he’ll be seen in Inkheart with Helen Mirren.
LUXE LIFE will have all the award announcements between now and the celebrity-crowded closing ceremonies on March 13. Over 5,000 delegates from more than 50 countries as far away as Asia and Australia will be in Vegas for the single largest gathering of motion picture professionals in the world.
*The 4th annual National Heads-Up Poker Championship is all set to return to Caesars Palace starting Feb. 28 thru March 2 with 64 of the world’s most elite poker players. The “who’s who” of the poker world includes defending champion Paul Wasicka, 2006 champion Ted Forrest, 2005 champion Phil Hellmuth and 2007 World Series of Poker (No Limit Texas Hold ’em) Champion Jerry Yang. Also competing in the ultimate one-on-one showdown will be Johnny Chan, Antonio Esfandiari, Sam Jamie Gold, Joe Hachem, Gus Hansen, Phil Laak, Howard Lederer, and Daniel Negreanu, among many others.
*Congratulations to our hometown Mosaic musical group for picking up their “Next Great Acapella Group” award on the CBS Early Show earlier this week. Comedy-king George Wallace discovered them here and gave them an early break with an on-stage run with him at the Flamingo. The nationwide search was judged by best-selling Motown group, Boyz II Men.
Mosaic, formed three-years ago, comprises six members: Josh Huslig, Sean Gerrity, Corwyn Hodge, Troy Dolendo, Heath Burgett and John Gibson. They moved here from Florida in 2006.
